Exciting and New Starts Sunday

Back to School Adventures!

Here’s a little comic book post about the kid’s first day back to school. This is old hat for Emma, who is seemingly so grown up (which makes me feel veeeery old), but it was a shock to the system for lil’ Samchez. But he was brave and put both feet forward and had a great first day at kindergarten. I asked him if he made any friends and he said told me he did. I said, “What are their names?” to which he replied, “Dad, I don’t know. He was a stranger. He was just a dude.” Oh, my. That produced some chuckles.

Come Aboard, we’re Expecting You….

Top of Utah 1/2 Marathon

The Top of Utah Half Marathon is this Saturday. This will be my third go at the 13.1 miles from Blacksmith Fork Canyon to Providence, and the number to beat is 1:44:35 - my time from last year. The race starts at 7AM at the Hyrum Electrical Plant and ends at Zollinger Park in Providence. I think we may go out for breakfast afterwards or head over to Great Harvest for some gianormous cinnamon rolls if anybody wants to come cheer ol’ Andy to a PR. I’m kind of nervous because I feel am a bit more flabby this year and my training hasn’t been as consistent, but hopefully heart and desire will make up for any lack elsewhere.

Wii Had a Fun Weekend

Kathy and kids came up this weekend and Emma and Sam had a good time hanging out with their cousins. Tonya and Lil’ Duke joined the festivities on Saturday and I matched wits with Sandra and Sneaky at Speed Scrabble on Sunday. I also was demolished by Faith on Wii bowling (and in boxing, baseball, bowling, tennis and golf - by Sneaky AND Faith). So, while it was a fun weekend, my pride and manliness is lying in puddle of mushy, gooey sadness at the foot of Grandma and Grandpa’s Wii. Curse you Nintendo!

Captain Steubing, Here We Come!

I just wanted to be the first person to say: TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE CRUISE! If you want to get really excited, you can check out the Carnival website and take a peek at our destinations. I, for one, am looking forward to Cozumel, Rotan Island and Belize. I am not looking forward to fat guys in speedos or hairy European woman. It’s gonna be good times folks! Get your party hats on and shine your dancing shoes!

Hardest Movie Quiz Ever

This movie title quiz at Empire Online is pretty tough. I didn’t get very many correct. In fact, probably less than 15. I felt stupid afterwards and went outside and kicked the first small dog I saw. Sadly, it was the bishop’s dog and now I’m pretty much doomed to Outer Darkness. But that’s another story.

The quiz goes like this: Basically, you have to guess the title of the movie from one letter cut from the movie’s poster or one-sheet. Make sure to type the whole name of the movie in the space and then press return to see if you were right.

Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay

Kim mentioned this in one of the posts and if you missed this race you really shouldn’t.  Everyone should watch this even if it is the only thing of the Olympics you watch (you shouldn’t miss any of the Olympics).  I knew the results when I watched this and I was still on the edge of my seat.  It was AWESOME!

Lagoon Redeux

Last year we went to Lagoon and poor little Samchez had a terrible asthma attack. This year we came prepared and we came on a Monday, which meant less tube tops, mullets, mesh shits, daisy dukes and bikinis on bodies that have no business wearing bikinis. We never waited more than 30 minutes for a ride (and that was for the BIG NAME rides) and the weather was fantastic. And I must say, Emma was quite the trooper. She went on The Rocket (both Blast Off and Re-Entry) and the new mess-your-drawers ride, Wicked. I give you pictures from our Lagoon-a-palooza with The Morgans and The Finsands (Spence and Kathy).

Everything You Need is Already Inside

Those are the words at the first of this cool Nike commercial I saw today while watching the Olympics. It doesn’t hurt that Nike set the commercial to a sweet song by “The Killers.” Good stuff, just like the Olympics.
