Tribute to a Great Lady

Grandmother Cook, always a lady. We had so much fun playing Rummikub with her. I never liked her meatloaf, too many onions, a continuing tribute to her husband who would eat them like apples. She was a good cook with everything else, however. She was a trooper, camping at the Reunions until we went to Deseret Land and Livestock. She took care of her family on her own after her husband’s death. She got two sons, a daughter, and herself through college after his death. She saw all her children and most grandchildren married in the temple. She saw most Great grand children baptized. She made all the great grandkids quilts that they all loved. She made all her grandchildren pillow cases and such for their weddings. She served in the temple and many other church callings. She loved to sing. She loved her family. She loved playing games and laughing. One specific memory that may seem silly to some, but is wonderful for me is this: one day she was at our white house in Providence and I was getting in trouble about a huge snarl in my hair. She took me behind the couch, out of sight of others, but close enough to still be a part of things, and carefully and patiently combed it out. It was such a simple thing but I’ve always remembered it as a loving gesture. I will miss her terribly. I’m happy, though, that she will finally get her wish to be reunited with her beloved husband, who’s been gone for so long.
