No Turning Back Now

Well, mark Saturday, September 15th on your calender folks, because it will assuredly be one of the hardest days of my life. I registered for the Top of Utah Marathon and will attempt to complete 26.2 miles in under three hours and 40 minutes. The course starts at Hardware Ranch in Blacksmith Fork Canyon and finishes at Merlin Olsen Park in Logan. Here is a course map if you’re interested in seeing the route.

Are you crazy?! I expected some lamentations about the Jazz. Can you believe some of the players were confirming vacations for next week in the locker room before the game. Talk about giving up. That’s just wrong. Rumor has it that it was Harpring and Keirlenko.

You will do great and you know it. You are an insperation to me. You are always challenging yourself and I think its great! Keep training and you will make your goal of under 3 hrs.

Under three hours! Whoa! I’m not Lance Armstrong, my friend. But truthfully, I have a hard time backing out of commitments, even light ones, like this. Truth be told, that’s why I went on a mission. Because someone committed me the day after I was baptized. I felt like I was going back on my word. And we all know those people (my dad) who say they will do something and then never do. I don’t want to be one of those.

BTW, my goal is 3:40 or better.

GREAT GOAL ANDY! Just train so you don’t have any bad effects from the run. I know you are in great shape though and I too admire you! Way to go.

If I’m available, I make a mean pot of spaghetti for the night before. You have to carb up, you know. You can get some high altitude running in at the cabin. Just don’t sprain your ankle on the rocks and holes, though.

That would be awesome if you came up and fixed pasta. My biggest fear is that I’ll be alone the whole race. Thank goodness for Amy & JJ, Sandy, Emma, Sam and my dad last summer. Finishing is fun, but finishing and seeing friends and family is better. I told Sandy she needs to follow the race course this time, so I don’t get lonely!

Buck up little camper, we’ll beat this slop together. I’ll be there if possible. It’s on my calendar. I just don’t know yet the schedule with soccer.

We would like to be there when you cross the finish line. You told me that you would never do a full marathon. Never say never.
