What It’s All About

It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of always wanting. I find myself swept up in this quite often. Wanting a better house, nicer car, new clothes, gadgets, more money and pretty much everything and anything to keep up with the Joneses. And then you get socked in the gut with what is really important.

When your three-year-old son says, “Dad, you have the coolest car” on a day when you’re ready to drive the same 180K tin can into the nearest tree. Or when your daughter writes about you in school during a week when your worrying about your career and future.

The two page “story” Emma wrote below touched me beyond words. It just goes to show that children are angels and messengers from Heaven. That somebody, not just dumb luck, is watching over us with love, despite our shortcomings and failings. And it also goes to show the power of archiving this to the web, so when Emma is 16 and thinks I’m a total idiot, I can show her what she thought of me when she was eight.

Sunny Saturday in SLC

I’m reviewing the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” or “TMNT” for the Herald Journal this Friday. I asked Emma if she wanted to go and she looked at me like I asked her to play with GIJOE or something. So, Sam gladly took his sister’s place and we headed down to Salt Lake City and stayed at Hotel Finsand on Friday night. On Saturday, Sam and I hit up the movie and Emma and Sandy went to the children’s museum at the Gateway. Couple that with great weather, some shopping and dinner at Red Robin and it was a pleasant trip. Thanks again to Kathy and family for allowing us to crash (and taking me to the gym in the morning so I could sweat off all the Girl Scout Samoas I ate the night before).
